For the past eight years, the group has shared the stage as professionals and friends. Weʼve had the pleasure of accompanying many artists and always look forward to the opportunity to interpret standards and some compostions. We have an open approach to improvising that draws from each membersʼ musical backgrounds and influences, highlighting the unique qualities of each musician to express the music with complete freedom. This elasticity of improvisation places the music in a constant state of evolution.

CALGARY DEANNE MATLEY PRéSENTE BECAUSE I LOVED

Join dynamic Calgary jazz vocalist Deanne Matley at Dièse Onze in Montréal on Friday April 20 as she celebrates her fifth and most personal album, Because I Loved. Deanne will be joined by some of her favourite Montréal players, who are also on the album, Paul Shrofel (piano), Adrian Vedady (bass), Steve Raegele (guitar) and Jim Doxas (drums). In Because I Loved, recorded last year in Montréal, Deanne takes us on her own emotional journey from the pain of losing love to quiet contentment, with stops at red-hot passion and the excitement of new love along the way. Whether she's singing one of her own original songs, or covering numbers by (among others) Stanley Turrentine and Journey, Deanne's seen-it-all authority permeates every cut. “This is an album about love, melancholy, and starting again … about relationships,” says Deanne. “It’s the album I’ve always dreamed of making.”

A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on into the early hours!
