The Story is an acoustic/electric-performing collective based in Brooklyn consisting of an international ensemble of five unique and extraordinary musicians/composers from diverse cultural backgrounds : Lars Dietrich from Amsterdam, Holland, Samir Zarif from Houston, United States, John Escreet from London, United Kingdom, Zack Lober from Montreal, Canada, and Greg Ritchie from Saint John, Canada. The group is at the forefront of New York's up and coming jazz scene and has already made a strong impression on New York's local scene as well as internationally.

Alex Bellegarde’s
dynamic Tuesday jam session has become one of Montreal’s hippest weekly
jazz events. The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio,
playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene
as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second
set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…
there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t
be on stage”. A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on
into the early hours!

Simon Legault is a guitarist living in Montréal, Québec, Canada. He performs regularly in and around Montreal. In March 2007 his quartet won first prize in the"Jazz en Rafale" competition. Their first CD, Misrememberings, will be out March 25th 2008 on Effendi Records."Using only a few notes, Legault creates phrases which are simple but endued with a remarkable intensity. Born in Ottawa, Frank Lozano studied at
Humber College in Toronto with Pat LaBarbera and in Boston with
Jerry Bergonzi. He has participated in the Montreal and Toronto Jazz
festivals with, among others, Tito Puente and Oliver Jones. After a tour
of Czechoslovakia in 1990, Lozano moved to Montreal where he joined
the Bernard Primeau Jazz Ensemble. With Primeau and special guest
trombonist Slide Hampton, Lozano recorded a CD and toured France. He
plays with FACT, the Montreal Jazz Big Band, Avalon, guitarist Rainer
Wiens in the group Zoom Horizon, bassist Ron Séguin, René Lussier’s group
Boudine and Alain Bédard’s quartet.

The Kalmunity Vibe Collective has put
together a special jazz project. Original compositions
and collective"live organic improv" are the points of departure.
Elements of dub /reggae, funk, hip-hop, afro-beat and r'n'b are
integrated into a jazz conception, allowing the musicians to reflect
their experiences (musical and otherwise) in the moment. Their
performances blur the line between improvisation and real-time
composition, making each set a unique experience.

An exciting mix of odd time signatures, groovy bass lines and explosive melodies, The Thundertones
always deliver an exciting show. This group of friends formed the band
1 year ago at McGill University while all members were attending the
jazz performance program. In their short existence they have written and
performed a vast array of original music, spanning many influences such
as Chris Potter's Underground Band,Dave Holland, Dave Douglas, Herbie
Hancock, David Binney, among others. One of the groups most notable
performance was at the 2008 MontrealInternational Jazz Festival.

Après avoir remporté plusieurs concours de musique classique et avoir fait des études au Conservatoire de musique de Montreal, à l'université Mcgill et plus récemment à la Manhattan School of music pour sa maitrise, Samuel Blais est devenu l'un des musiciens à surveiller de sa génération. Le pianiste Félix Stüssi est
originaire de Suisse. Il a étudié avec Irène Schweizer, Markus Bischof,
Christoph Baumann, Vince Benedetti et Art Lande. En 1996, il a gagné
les premiers prix (soliste et ensemble) du festival de Jazz de
Zollikon, Suisse. Depuis 1998, il habite Montréal. Il a lancé son
premier disque «Give me five» qui a été très bien reçu par le publique

C’est dans le cadre du cours de Combo Jazz à l’Université McGill
queMario, Jean-François et Alex unissent leurs forces pour la
premièrefois. Une fois sortis de l’école, une idée leur vint à l’esprit
:“Qu’arrive-t-il si l’on élimine les instruments harmoniques (ex:
piano,guitare) du groupe ?” La réponse : une liberté totale
dansl’improvisation, la possibilité de pousser les limites du rhytme et
dela mélodie hors des sentiers battus et la découverte d’une
toutenouvelle approche de l’harmonie traditionnelle jazz. Le MAQ étaitné!
Après plusieurs prestations et une participation à la premièreédition
du concours Jazz en Rafale en 2006, le groupe était prêt àentamer la
plus récente page de son histoire. On ajoute un trompettiste(David
Carbonneau) à l’orchestration existante, et un nouveau batteur(Alain
Bourgeois) vient remplacer l’ancien. La formule était gagnante !Grâce à
une participation au projet JeunesVolontaires, le groupe nousarrive
avec un nouvel album éponyme, constitué exclusivement denouveaux opus
et avec une énergie et une fougue qui a su charmerl’auditoire tant à
Montréal qu’en tournée.

The Kalmunity Vibe Collective has put together a special jazz project.
Original compositions and collective "live organic improv" are the
points of departure. Elements of dub /reggae, funk, hip-hop, afro-beat
and r'n'b are integrated into a jazz conception, allowing the musicians
to reflect their experiences (musical and otherwise) in the moment.
Their performances blur the line between improvisation and real-time
composition, making each set a unique experience.

Alex Bellegarde’s
dynamic Tuesday jam session has become one of Montreal’s hippest weekly
jazz events. The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio,
playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene
as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second
set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…
there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t
be on stage”. A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on
into the early hours!
