The Kalmunity Vibe Collective hasput
together a special jazz project. Original compositions andcollective
"live organic improv" are the points of departure. Elementsof dub /
reggae, funk, hip-hop, afro-beat and r'n'b are integrated intoa jazz
conception, allowing the musicians to reflect their experiences(musical
and otherwise) in the moment. Their performances blur the linebetween
improvisation and real-time composition, making each set aunique
experience.

09:30 PM | THE THUNDERTONES
An exciting mix of odd time signatures, groovy bass lines and
explosive melodies, the Thundertones always deliver an exciting show. This group of friends formed the band 1 year ago at McGill University
while all members were attending the jazz performance program. In their
short existence they have written and performed a vast array of original
music, spanning many influences such as Chris Potter's Underground Band,
Dave Holland, Dave Douglas, Herbie Hancock, David Binney, among others. One of the groups most notable performance was at the 2008 Montreal
International Jazz Festival.

Présentement en préparation de son deuxième album à paraître en 2009, Julie Lamontagne nous visite avec son trio afin de développer un nouveau répertoire. Comme c’est souvent « live » que la musique prend forme et prend vie, elle explorera alors ses nouvelles compositions avec ses comparses sous nos yeux. Ils joueront également la musique du premier album « Facing the truth ». Un invité différent à chaque prestation se joindra également au trio question d’élargir les horizons musicaux !

Composer, trumpeter and vocalist Nate Birkey currently resides in New
York City and remains busy performing, recording, and touring with his
quintet. Nate has also performed with saxophonists Dave Liebman and
Phil Woods; pianists Gerald Clayton and Roger Kelleway, guitarist Vic
Juris, drummer Bill Goodwin, and many others. Critics have compared
Birkey's subtle vocal and trumpet approach to that of Chet Baker and
Miles Davis respectively - a sound poised and assured, powerfully stark
and spare, creating an atmosphere at once solitary and electric.

recorded with many of the worlds best, including John Abercrombie, Don
Alias, Shirley Eikhard, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman, Archie Shepp,
Sonny Greenwich and Slide Hampton. His music has been described by
critics as "outstanding in every way" and "Canadian jazz at it's
best"(Globe and Mail). He has performed extensively throughout North
America and Europe including the Antibes Jazz Festival in France, the
Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy and as a regular at the Montreal
International Jazz Festival.
